I've just received all the details regarding the proposed new community centre for Cranbrook and seen the piece in the Courier. Whilst none of us I'm sure would argue that this is a much-needed (and wanted) town facility, I'm utterly baffled by how on earth the estimated costs of building one (around £1.5million according to the report) are going to be raised. It's suggested it will be via sponsorship and fundraising, but to my mind, this seems like an impossibly high amount for our small town when many businesses are already struggling and so many families are cash-strapped. Can anyone shed any light on any of these plans? I know that over in Crowborough, they are raising money for their new centre via an increase in council tax bills - not an appealing prospect - but at least it sounds as if that approach is not on the agenda here!!

£1.5M does seem an exceptionally large amount to raise, plus there's also the tower at St Dunstan's which apparently needs 200K for repairs which I understand is also to be generated via fundraising. I'm sure the WBA will let us know in due course how they plan to pull this together, and I for one am really looking forward to understanding this in a bit more detail.

A mammoth sum but hopefully if everyone gets behind the appeal it will succeed, especially if TW Borough Council can be persuaded to do the right thing!
One small thing, the WBA supports the intiative but the driving force is the Cranbrook Weald Centre Group.

Thanks Kevin, let's hope more details can be supplied soon. This website(and the whole UK-wide Local People network of sites) is owned by the same group as the Courier, and so it goes without saying that we'll do everything we can to support the hugely worthwhile cause.
