Sad news to hear that the popular farm shop in Goudhurst is to close. Attached is the full press release from Taywell.

What do you think? Will it be missed? Will other businesses in the village benefit from the closure as expected?

Absolutely outrageous! Typical Maxwell-Jones!!! I moved out of the village around 4 years ago but I am not surprised that Mr M-J has opposed this, he has always been so blinkered.

Burgess Stores has the monopoly on groceries in the village as there are a large proportion of people who do not drive and therefore, would not frequent Taywell Farm Shop. Instead of fighting the so called competition, his time would be better spent on being more creative with his own store.

Whatever next... will the newsagents be banned from selling biscuits or crips or any form of cake.... does that mean that Burgess Stores should not sell any form of headache tablets or medicine so as not to compete with the chemist???

Competition is life and he should accept it - Taywell found its niche with its ice-cream and high end quality goods, Burgess stores is more everyday.

I really hope people speak with their feet and boycott Burgess Stores!
They havent closed Hartley Dyke cos it competes with the shops in Cranbrook... Maxwell Jones is a joke!

I am really amazed and upset by this story. Five people are out of work because of this. How can it be allowed to happen? Surely this is not fair at all? if all shop owners could complain about the competition in this way surely we would end up with just one monopoly of a shop in each town and village. Ridiculous!
