Interesting times for Cranbrook School, with news of two big changes affecting both staff and pupils in 2012.

The Governors of Cranbrook School has announced the appointment of a new head teacher for the school.  John Weeds, currently Principal at Reading School, will take up the post in September 2012 following the retirement of the current head teacher, Angela Daly.

A Cambridge Classics graduate, John has taught in both state and independent schools during his career.  His current school, Reading, is an old foundation and a state boarding school with academy status; it is selective and boys only and achieves excellent academic results. Its last two Ofsted reports rated it as outstanding.

Last week also saw Cranbrook School successfully convert to academy status with effect from 1st December.  "Academy status will undoubtedly help us cope with some of the budget cuts which we face", said Angela Daly, "and will, to some extent, ameliorate those. However, even with the additional money that academy status brings there are significant challenges ahead".
