Congratulations to the many local Cranbrook students today who received their A-level exam grades - and notched up the best set of results on record for the town.

In line with the rest of the UK, A-level passes in Cranbrook have risen for the 29th year in a row as teenagers face an intense battle for university places, and those who miss out on a place this year could face tuition fees of up to £9,000 a year.

According to the BBC, the overall pass rate is up slightly, but for the first time in 14 years there has been no increase in the total proportion getting A or A* grades. Just over 27% of entries scored these grades, with a small rise in the proportion awarded A*.

Of particular mention are the 145 pupils at Cranbrook School, who scored a solid 45.8% at grade A* or A.

The annual increases in A-level pass rates however has prompted a Government review, with Education Secretary Michael Gove has ordering an assessment of A-levels to see how they compare with exam systems in other countries. He has also said he wants more emphasis on a final exam which stretches candidates' capacity for original thought.

How did you (or your child) get on today? Were your results as expected? What's next for you if so?
